IF-News07 : New Truck Axle Limitations
- See Press Release

The Kenya Ministry of Transport has published new axle load regulations as per attachment. The regional transport companies have objected to the timing of the regulation and the implementation has been suspended on temporary basis by court injunction. However it is just a temporary injunction and we expect that the implementation will be enforced by the Kenya Government.

The reduction of 1 axle will reduce the payload of the trucks to a maximum of 27 tons cargo/container weight. Since the implementation will be enforced without further notice we recommend to our customers to limit the container weights as follows:

20ft – maximum 13.5 tons gross weight including container tare

40ft – maximum 27.0 tons gross weight including container tare

20ft containers with more weight may have to travel as single load unless otherwise agreed. 40ft containers exceeding 27 tons may get stuck in Mombasa as they cannot be moved within the legal weight limits.

Presently we are still moving with 7-axles but request that customers get prepared for the new regulations. Further updates will follow as and when available.
