Kenya is the leading industrial
nation in East Africa and has an impressive variety of industries
which not only produces for the local market but also for the
export into the neighboring countries. Besides the industrial
base it however also remains a leading producer of agricultural
products such as tea, coffee, flowers and fruits which are mostly
going overseas.
The port of Mombasa is the leading port in East
Africa and the starting point of the NORTHERN CORRIDOR which connects
Uganda, Rwanda, Eastern Congo and Southern Sudan to the Indian
Ocean. Road and Rail connections guarantee the vital import and
export link for the entire region and not only for the Kenya domestic
market.
INTERFREIGHT operates its regional head office
in Mombasa. This office is mainly acting as transit station to
the above mentioned countries. The Nairobi office however is mainly
related to Kenya industries and is particularly well established
in the airfreight market whereby the global PANALPINA network
gives us a competitive edge over many other forwarders.
Besides the two main offices in Mombasa and Nairobi
INTERFREIGHT has operational outlets in Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret,
Isebania and Malaba which mostly cater for the transit traffic
by road and by rail to the neighboring countries.
Malaba is particularly important as we operate
and EXCLUSIVE rail/road terminal where rail cargo is shifted to
road transport for the onwards journey to places which are not
connected with rail links. This terminal is equipped with 1 container
reach stacker of 42 tons capacity.
This connection is particularly important for traffic to Southern
Sudan, Northern Uganda, Eastern Congo and Rwanda/Burundi.
All transit traffic is handled with a fleet of
up to 150 trucks which are subcontracted on exclusive basis by
INTERFREIGHT.
In addition INTERFREIGHT has a fleet of 50 dedicated
container carrier wagons which are leased from Uganda Railways
Corporation for the rail traffic to/from Uganda. |
